LIST PICK
BLACK BORDELLO ACID MARY
‘Acid Mary’ is the final single from Black Bordello’s upcoming second album. The track tells a littoral elegy about romance with a siren using a uniquely dark sonic universe. There’s a Siouxie Sioux-esque vocal at the core of the track, with an explorative bass line wandering creepily below a wash of organ noise that slowly builds into the Cure-esque chorus. Their alt-rock sound is pushed outward by a variety of influences that makes the band almost indefinable: post-rock, prog, goth, chamber pop; the list goes on. Black Bordello’s long-awaited second album, White Bardo, drops on September 23rd, 2024, with a launch party at London’s Moth Club the day after. “Our first album was an experience of me finishing adolescence and realising that the adult world was more laced with misogyny and other disparities,” Sienna Bordello reflects, “I became fed up and bored by earthly politics and semantics, hence my current fascination with the metaphysical world and outer space.” -Dan Peeke
